Are you noticing higher temperatures in your truck lately? Has your truck accumulated high mileage? Consider replacing your thermostats with DMAX High Flow Thermostats - they are a direct fit for GM originals. Designed to open at the same temperature as stock, these thermostats open faster and allow for increased coolant flow. This helps lower the temperature of the coolant more quickly when it gets hot, maintains a steady temperature, and reduces strain on the water pump impeller. We highly recommend these thermostats, especially when upgrading your water pump and other components in your cooling system.

Includes:

  • 1x Thermostat that opens at 185º
  • 1x Thermostat that opens at 180º

Notes:

  • Sold as a set
  • The oil filler tube and upper coolant pipe seals are not included. They are highly recommended to be replaced during a thermostat replacement to prevent leaks.

  • GM 97241129
  • GM 97241130

I’m seeing fluctuations in temperature between 185 and almost 210 with just normal driving. Not sure how this is normal.

Hi Pete,

Without more vehicle details, it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact cause, but what you’re describing can be normal depending on conditions. If you’re referencing the factory coolant temperature gauge in the instrument cluster, we regularly see those read 20–35 degrees off when temperatures are under 210.

Temperature fluctuations are expected during normal driving. Under load, it’s common for temps to rise into the 200–210 range, then return to the mid-180s once the load is reduced and the engine is generating less heat.

Cooling system condition also plays a role. Debris or sediment in the radiator fins can cause temperatures to rise faster and higher compared to a clean, unrestricted radiator. Additionally, failing thermostats often stick open, which keeps temperatures around 160 degrees. When functioning properly, thermostats open at 180–185 degrees, raising the minimum operating temperature and allowing the engine to regulate heat more effectively.

If you feel you’re experiencing something outside of normal operation or have concerns about the product, please reach out to our customer service team at 877-469-3629 and we’d be happy to help further.

My temps bounce between 190s and 186 / 187. Not happy with them.

Thanks for the feedback. What you’re seeing is normal thermostat operation. A thermostat opens and closes to regulate engine temperature rather than holding it at one fixed number. Under load, when the engine is generating more heat, it’s normal to see higher temperatures. When the load is reduced and less heat is being produced, the thermostat cycles and the temperature comes back down. Small fluctuations like the range you’re describing are expected and indicate the cooling system is working as designed.
If you still feel this is not normal, please reach out to our support team at 877-469-3629.
