GM had great success with the LM2 Duramax in the half-ton trucks and they saw that improvements could be made. Keeping the same drivetrain and chassis they did update the front fascia as well as some components of the engine to improve performance and efficiency. The power and torque were increased to 305 horsepower and 495 ft-lb of torque, thanks to the new fuel injectors, refined compressor wheel on the turbo, and new steel pistons. Along with these improvements came a new engine control system that is referred to as “global B” this is a much more complex system that is harder for the aftermarket to support.
