General Motors doesn’t always split model years evenly, and we’ve seen this happen in the past, with more examples likely in the future. A recent instance occurred in 2022 with the GM 1500 platform. The "new" body style debuted mid-year, resulting in 2022.5 trucks that resemble the 2023 models but still feature the LM2 Duramax engine from the 2020-2022 trucks. To distinguish between the two, the pre-refresh 2022 models have a 12th VIN digit of 4 or lower, while the refreshed 2022.5 models have a 12th VIN digit of 5 or higher. If you have a 2023, they will all be refresh models with the LZ0 Duramax engine.
Silverado Differences
The most notable differences on the exterior of the Silverado took place on the front fascia. Below, the White 2022 Silverado High Country is a "Pre-Refresh" and the Black 2022.5 Silverado High Country is a "Refresh". The differences between "Pre-Refresh" and "Refresh" are noticeable as the headlights, grille, bumpers, etc. saw a slight revision.

Another major upgrade was the Silverado interior, this was a much needed interior update as there has not been any major changes to the interior since 2014. This is a massive step forward and is a much more modern interior design. As seen below, this 2022.5+ Refresh Silverado 1500 RST has an all new screen design along with a full digital gauge cluster, revised center console and center stack with new AC controls.

Sierra Differences
You can see similar changes on the GMC platform with their unique design elements. The White 2022 Sierra Denali is a "Pre-Refresh" and the Black 2022.5 Sierra Denali is a "Refresh". While these trucks may look similar at first glance there were a lot of stylistic changes that they made on the headlights, grille, bumper and hood.

The Sierra also changed the interior drastically. As seen below, this 2022.5 Refresh Sierra 1500 Denali has been revised with subtle differences compared to the Silverado. The interior along with new color and material options are now available so you can outfit your truck with more luxuries than ever before.

Now that you have the knowledge on how to identify whether your 2022 is a "Pre-Refresh" or "Refresh" model, you can source the correct replacement parts.
