Callies DuraStar Crankshaft and Alternate Firing Camshaft Package Deal

Fits 2001-2016 Chevy / GMC 6.6L Duramax

DuraStar Crankshaft Built By Callies

Callies Durastar crankshafts are designed to be substantially stronger than OEM shafts currently found in GM’s popular Duramax diesel.  This improvement is the result of substantially stronger steel, considerably deeper nitride layer and unique machining features.

Durastar crankshafts are intended to be externally balanced with stock damper and flywheel configurations.

Unlike the LB7 stock crank, Callies modified the counterweights on this Durastar Crank to be able to clear and fit in all years with stock rods and pistons. *Will not work with stock style LBZ/LMM Pistons*

Durastar advantages:

  1. Deep DuraCase nitride treatment that is durability and wear enhancing
  2. Large True Form fillet radii in all journals
  3. Keyed Shear Proof timing gear fit
  4. Drilled rod journals for reduced inertia and ease of balance
  5. Stock 3.898” stroke with OEM journal diameters and width
  6. Machined from 4340, through hardened steel
  7. Dual keyed damper fit
  8. Conservatively rated for 800hp @ 800 ft / lb torque
  9. Will accept OEM post and flange bolts
  10. Machined to accept OEM flywheels / flexplates
  11. All journals are polished to a 6Ra or finer finish
  12. Main bearing oil holes are machined with lead-ins for enhanced cold start oil flow to rod journals
  13. GM timing gears are available

DuraStar Alternate Firing Camshaft Built by Callies

Great Replacement for tow, street, and mild race!

Stage 1, No Piston Valve Reliefs Needed!

The main reason for modifying the Duramax firing order with the camshaft is to relieve stress on the front portion of the crankshaft in higher performance applications. The OEM firing order ends at Cylinder #3 and then continues from the beginning through cylinders 1 and 2. The Duramax Cranks see the most strain and tend to break right behind the first rod throw at the intersection of the second main journal (the snout). We have seen failures on anything from mildly modified daily drivers to all-out competition trucks. The Duramax engine Harmonics become too stressful on the cranks when getting into the higher RPM ranges and bigger power levels with the OEM firing order. With this DuraStar Alternate Firing Camshaft, cylinders 1, 2, and 3 are moved away from each other to distribute the stress of combustion more evenly and help reduce the abuse to your crankshaft.

Duramax engines respond to alternate firing camshafts better than any other diesel on the market. Thanks to the high flow aluminum heads, the right camshaft can increase the Duramax's Head flow considerably. Dyno tests have proven a much broader power curve, increasing HP and Torque through all RPM's making this mod perfect for anything from a daily driver to an NHRDA comp truck.

Callies metallurgy and heat treat teams have perfected revolutionary methods to bring you unrivaled camshaft durability. These Camshafts are built from a carburized and hardened 8620 steel to make sure it can handle anything you throw at it.

DmaxStore Notes:

  • Engine Wiring Harness modifications are required due to the new firing order.

Optional Dmax Performance Crankshaft Gear:

  • Part# DMAX-PERF-GEAR
  • When replacing or upgrading your driveshaft it is vital that you replace the Crank Gear as well. This performance gear is built within GM OEM Specs and will fit all aftermarket standard sized Crankshafts.
